Creating a Plain Text Version in the HTML Editor

Why including plain text is important

Although most email clients are capable of displaying HTML emails, there are still one or two that will block HTML and will only display plain text emails.

Additionally, a lot of spam filters will block emails that don’t have a plain text version attached. The plain text version is therefore essential if you want to ensure that you’re delivering your mail to your recipients inbox.

    Step by step guide

1.Once you have finished creating your email, click the plain text button.

    2. If plain text is disabled, click editor

    3. Click convert HTML to plain text. A pop up window will display a warning in case you clicked this button by accident. Click ok. The text box is now filled with a plain version of your HTML email

    4. Read through the plain text the system has created and edit where needed.

Keep the plain text version as close to the HTML as possible – the more different it is, the more likely it is to be seen as Spam.

Make sure you keep the reader interested with bullet points and spacing – avoid big blocks of text.

The HTML and plain text versions are seen as one message, so you only use one credit.

Avoid using auto-shortened URLs, as these might be seen as phishing by spam filters
